The outbreak of Coronavirus in 2019 and the declaration of it as a pandemic in 2020 came with many challenges. It is more than two years now, and even though there is vaccination, the virus is still with us. It is a pandemic that has altered our lives and brought new approaches to work from home.
Working from home, which has become a new normal, has its advantages and disadvantages. Among the top disadvantages is that many people have failed to monitor their health. As of writing this blog post, I have seen some of my friends who started to work from home fail to pay attention to their health. As a result, they face various health challenges like overweight, blood pressure, and other diseases related to lack of exercise.
Hence, I have chosen to share with you various ways you can stay healthy during a pandemic at home because it seems this virus will not go away tomorrow. The new normal of working from home, which has been adopted, seems to go on forever; it is a new way of working.
Even though you are working from home, you need to take care of your health. There is a need to exercise to avoid getting into trouble where you cannot manage your weight.
Tips on how to stay Healthy during pandemic at home
It is imperative to monitor your health every day. Don’t wait when you get sick and that the time you start monitoring your health. Furthermore, keeping your body healthy doesn’t have to a big deal. Below are tips you can adopt today to your daily life and keep your body healthy and fit without hassle.
1. Eat fresh, plant-based foods.
There is a common saying that your 'body is what you eat, while the latter is true. Even though you have to keep your distance and isolate yourself, and to some extent government is promoting staying at home. It is important to visit the grocery store to get fresh and plant-based foods.
I know there is fear to walk around, but you get into trouble with your health because you are not eating the right food. You can follow the laid down protocols and walk to the nearest grocery store shop as many fresh and plant-based foods and store them well for one week. For the fresh foods, you can store them in a freezer or on your refrigerator.
Don’t forget to get vegetables and fruits as they have the right vitamins which your body requires. You should strive to have 2/3 of the food on the plate filled with vegetables, fruit, and whole grains. On the other, the reaming 1/3 can be protein, either meat or plant-based protein. You need to eat protein as it a building food.
2. Avoid processed foods
Processed food appeals to the convenient food for many people during this pandemic food. While it is the food which can last longer but there are disadvantages of eating processed food.
In most cases, you'll find this food; although the manufacturer claims it is healthy, it is not because you cannot tell the ingredients used to prepare the food.
As I know, it is almost impossible to avoid processed food; why not limit your purchase. More so, you need to check the ingredients on the food. At all costs, avoid food high in sodium, added sugar, and saturated fat.
Processed meals tend to have high sodium, added sugar, and saturated fats, all of which can lead to weight gain and health issues.
Here is the right recommendation on sodium, added sugar, and saturated fat.
· Sodium: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you consume no more than 2,300 mg of sodium each day. That's a smidgeon under a teaspoon.
· Added sugar: Women should consume no more than 25 grams (six teaspoons) of added sugar per day, while men should consume no more than 37 grams (nine teaspoons).
· Saturated fat: Saturated and Trans fats should be avoided at all costs. Choose healthy fats like those found in salmon and avocados instead. They provide energy, promote cell function, and aid nutrient absorption.
3. Try simple and healthy recipes: Always try to use homemade fresh food.
While working from home, it can be hard to have time to prepare a complicated recipe. More so it gets hard if you have to prepare a meal for the whole family. But do you know there are simple, healthy recipes? Yes, simple recipes are easy to prepare, and you get to eat a healthy meal.
Don’t stress yourself with complicated recipes trying to eat a healthy meal. Equally simple recipes are healthy, and you get to have time to work from home. Note to add the right ingredients when preparing your recipes and manage your weight while working from home.
6. Exercise
Exercising during this pandemic time seems impossible for those who used to go to the gym. However, it's critical to discover new ways to exercise beneficial to both your physical and emotional health.

Exercise has an impact on blood flow and how your body is nourished, and it can also help you feel less anxious and depressed. Every week, try to get in at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of intense exercise.
Getting outside for social distancing is generally safe as long as you stay 6 feet away from other people, but make sure you follow any local social distancing legislation.
4. Reduce stress
Working from homes comes with lineless, and this can lead to stress. As a result, it leads to diseases like blood pressure. Don't overwork as this will lead to stress. Take breaks, straight out, or take a walk whenever you feel your mind is occupied with many things. T is important to take care of your mind even though you are working from home.
Additionally, you can try various ways to calm yourself down when you feel overwhelmed, like meditation or yoga. Note when you have stressed, it leads to a negative impact on your health.
5. Drink enough water
If you would like to have a healthy body while working from home them drink enough water. The recommended water to drink every day is between 8-10 glasses. Water also helps in reducing the amount of food you eat. Thus you have food craving all the time water can help ward off. Water also helps in the burning of calories which leads to unwanted weight.
If you're going to drink flavored water, be sure it's calorie-free. You can flavor the water by adding a few pieces of fruit, which will add vitamins, antioxidants, and flavor.
Limit your alcohol consumption because it can harm cells and cause cancer. The National Cancer Institute suggests that women have no more than one drink per day and males have no more than two drinks per day if they wish to drink.
